Our next stop after leaving Ontario was Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba. The park is 270 km north-west of Winnipeg. We planned two full days in the park and got rewarded with some amazing encounters.
We also noticed that Manitoba is not all flat. Our campsite location was on a unexpected topographical feature that we had to get some firewood to level the trailer. We just didn't have enough leveling blocks.
The service at the parks wood yard was exemplary. We went there to pick up 2 bags of firewood and they offered free delivery to the camp site.
Inside the Park is a small town with all the touristy needs one has. From ice cream to Cheeseburger with beer and beach sandals to rental bikes. The lake has a boat rental and a pier to dock your own vessel. We didn't come for swimming or boating, but we enjoyed a serving of chicken fingers and a drink in one of the restaurants.
We came back to the park to see the Bison. On our last visit in 2011, they were mostly hiding or running away. This time we got up early to beat the tourist rush. They have a fenced in range and a loop for the visitors to drive through. We were lucky. the Bison were hanging out alongside the road.
