When you travel the Trans Canada Hwy, the park is less then hour away. Brook is possibly the closest town to the Dinosaur Provincial Park and eventually to Drumheller for the Royal Tyrrell Museum. Brook is located on the Trans Canada Hwy.
Before you enter the Red Deer Valley, stop at the Lookout to see the size of the Badlands, enjoy the view from 'up there' (picture above). Then drive down to the parking.
The Museum is a good place to start and book a guided excursions (or book on-line to have a spot reserved).
Spend the time to visit the different trails before the guided tour, they are an excellent introduction to what you will see and learn during the tour. The trails may be short but will take a lot of time to enjoy the scenery.
Some features like the the Bone Bed are only accessible with a guided tour.
